By searching for a basis vehicle for our "Rolling Home" we decide once again for an Unimog. With the predecessor, a 416er Unimog,
we were able to convince ourselves of the reliability and robustness of an Unimog on our trips during altogether three years and
125,000 km. To get more driving- and seat comfort in the drivers cabin we buy another model, one so-called 1300er. It was 1989 when
in this series a generation change of the 1300er, constructed since 1978, took place. Our vehicle - year of construction 1990 -
already has the newer Turbomotor OM 366 A as well as another transmission and other axels. To the moment of the purchase, the chassis
is technical and optical in a good shape. We let it amend according to our desires and varnish it in a new color.
An Unimog is a multipurpose vehicle with an extremely off-road mobility, made by Mercedes Benz. Unimog is a shortcut for the german
words "Uni(verselles) Mo(tor) G(eraet)" = universal motor implement. It is standard equipped with 4x4 as well as with differential
lock for back and rear axle. Both possibilities can be operated pneumatically while driving. Due to the portal axle construction the
axle and the differential are situated above the wheel center. From this results a extremely high ground clearance. The axle supension
by coil springs and the cardan shaft housing technique enables the constant ground contact also in hard-to-travel areas. The flexible
ladder-type frame permits a torsion of the axle up to 30°. The climbing ability of the Unimog amounts to max. 100 %, this corresponds
to 45°. The vehicle was a former German Federal Armed Forces vehicle and it is equipped with a wading system. That means, driving
through water up to 1.20 m is possible. An excess pressure of 0,2 bar in the axles prevents the penetration of water. Due to the
twisting-free 3-point suspension of the living-cabin cross-country mobility is not limited.
